Seven Steps to Make Sustainable  Buildings

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability refers to the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

  •

How it can be implemented in the initial stage or in the existing buildings to make buildings sustainable buildings?

It can be achieved by minimizing energy and water consumption, we have to save the resources very intelligently so that we may optimize the utilization and also save for our future generation.

The Essence of Sustainable Building Design: From energy efficiency and renewable resources to passive design and eco-conscious materials, we showcase how these elements come together to create environmentally responsible structures.

Net-Zero Energy Buildings: A Revolution in Sustainability: Discover the concept of net-zero energy buildings, where the energy consumption is offset by renewable energy generation on-site. We explore real-life examples of net-zero buildings and the cutting-edge technologies that enable them to function efficiently while minimizing their carbon footprint.

Circular Economy in Construction: The construction industry is a major contributor to waste generation. Learn how the circular economy concept is implemented to reduce construction waste, recycle materials, and design buildings with disassembly and adaptability in mind.

Green Materials: Redefining Construction: The choice of building materials can significantly impact a project’s sustainability. This episode explores the latest advancements in green materials, such as recycled steel, bamboo, rammed earth, and innovative biodegradable composites.

Green Roof and Vertical Gardens: Green roofs and vertical gardens are excellent examples of sustainable urban solutions. We showcase their benefits in terms of improving air quality, managing stormwater, reducing urban heat islands, and enhancing biodiversity.

Retrofitting for Sustainability: Older buildings can be energy-intensive and less eco-friendly. In this video, we discuss how retrofitting can transform existing structures into sustainable ones, breathing new life into aging buildings.

Sustainable Community Planning: Beyond individual buildings, sustainable communities play a vital role in creating a more sustainable future. We explore urban planning principles that prioritize walkability, public transportation, mixed-use development, and green spaces.

Seven Steps to Make Environment-friendly Buildings

  1. Site Selection and orientation of buildings:-

To create a  Building Sustainable Site Selection and orientation are the most important things. As we live in Hot Dry and humid climate, in our conditions six to seven months are extremely Hot Summers and three to four months is Humid atmosphere rest are the winters so we need to make our buildings more to safe from extreme Sun and for that AIR flow is also a very important aspect.to make our buildings environment-friendly buildings.

 2. Energy Efficiency

To make Energy efficient buildings we should use more and more LED Bulbs instead of traditional ones even to save water use sensor base taps. Make the optimum use of the available options to make our building sustainable ."Energy-Efficient Building Envelopes and Insulation" Learn how a well-designed building envelope and effective insulation systems can dramatically improve energy efficiency in structures. We'll explore the principles of passive design, incorporating features like high-performance windows, natural ventilation, and thermal mass to regulate indoor temperatures without relying heavily on mechanical systems. Discover the benefits of proper insulation, which not only reduces energy consumption but also enhances occupant comfort.

 3. Renewable Energy

“Renewable Energy Integration in Buildings” We’ll delve into solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, geothermal heating and cooling, and other renewable technologies that allow buildings to generate their own clean energy. Case studies of net-zero energy buildings will demonstrate how smart energy systems can make structures self-sufficient and even contribute back to the grid. Use Solar Panel and even Wind Panel also to make our buildings Environment-friendly Buildings

4. Water Conservation

  • Soak pits for Rain water

  • Reuse the wastewater from RO water purifiers for washing cars or watering your plants.

  • Install sensor-based taps in washrooms

  • Greywater from the kitchen sink, wash basin, and bathroom can be stored in a tank and further used for watering the plants & also in flushing

We should ask clients to make Rain Water Harvesting pits to recharge the groundwater, and even make an arrangement for the storage of RO wastewater and kitchen and wash room grey water, which may be used for watering plants and car washing to save water and make our environment sustainable.

5. Passive Design

We should incorporate the concept in the initial stage of designing buildings to make a Green Building Design.

The orientation of the building which suits our climate should be East-West so maximum windows be provided in the North and south directions to flow the air naturally.

But providing windows towards the South side with maximum heating sun will enter our building and will require more artificial equipment would require to cool the environment so it is advisable to use projections or louvers in the south direction or more vegetation may be provided to make cooler the southern facade.

6. Sustainable Materials

What is a sustainable material? which is locally available or fewer cartridges are required to make the material available at the site.

Eco-Friendly Materials and Construction Techniques” we will discover a plethora of eco-friendly materials and construction techniques that can significantly reduce the environmental impact of building projects. From recycled materials and reclaimed wood to earth-based construction methods like rammed earth and adobe, we’ll showcase how these sustainable options promote resource conservation, reduce waste, and create healthier indoor environments.

We should search for an alternative solution to the Red Bricks to avoid digging in the earth’s soil, concrete bollocks or hollow concrete blocks are the alternative to Red Bricks.

Similarly Use MDF, LDF as an alternative of Hard Wood, to save trees to make our environment sustainable.

We should promote Precast slabs and panels for Brick walls and slabs also to save water and time.

7. Indoor Air Quality

  • Proper natural ventilation should be in all rooms

  • Use Ducts to exhaust hot air from the rooms.

  • We can make some water body in the courtyard to make the inner environment healthy

In the past, our buildings were cooled why? We were using thick walls and the height of our buildings was higher than the present ones also they tried to give provision of ventilator near the roof slab so that warmer air can exit from the rooms naturally and cooler air replaces that air.

We should try to incorporate ducts along the rooms so that warmer air can exhale naturally.

Conclusion

Start thinking and taking action to save Water & Electricity

Try to incorporate a central duct which can be used to exhaust the hot air from all rooms

  • More plantations around the surroundings

  • Make an underground water storage tank for collecting the rainwater & kitchen drain which can be used for plantation or washing.

  • Use non-toxic building materials like concrete blocks, straw boards for Almira, bamboo, prefabricated slabs etc.

  • Smart planning considering the weather conditions

  • Try to use Natural ventilation over an artificial one.

  • The south wall needs special treatment, similarly terrace also.

Join us on this exciting journey to explore the world of sustainable building design and solutions. By implementing these innovative practices, we can not only create greener buildings but also build a more sustainable future for generations to come. Together, let’s take a step towards a harmonious coexistence with our environment and create a world where sustainable living is the norm.
